A foot of fresh snow, a high avalanche risk, and a discouraging forecast of cloud, wind, and snow on this day lead us to tackle the adventure that is Chester Lake on a long weekend. While the initial 500 m of trail is different than before the flood, it is well marked and packed and following it should be no trouble at all. In fact, it's not even worthy of directions!
Thankfully an early start meant we were the second ones on the trail and were able to hike to the Elephant Rocks above the lake and explore around a bit before other groups arrived. After a quick lunch in a fleeting moment of sun we headed backed down, dodging the herds of people now arriving and spending most of our time off-trail in the deep snow. With the exception of a few chest deep falls (the snow is absurdly unsupportive this year), the day was uneventful.
